Student visa questions

Can I apply for a student visa from inside Australia?

It depends on the visa you currently hold. Some visas, such as visitor visas, have restrictions on applying for a student visa in Australia. We check your situation first.

What is the Genuine Student requirement?

It replaced the Genuine Temporary Entrant requirement in 2024. You answer targeted questions about your circumstances, your course and why you want to study in Australia, supported by evidence.

My student visa was refused. What can I do?

Refusals of applications made in Australia are usually reviewable by the Administrative Review Tribunal within a strict time limit. See Visa & citizenship refusals.
